Bengaluru, 9th June 2021 :

Sportz Village’s 11th Annual Health Survey (AHS) reveals that children are displaying poor fitness levels across India. The nationwide survey covered 2,54,681 children in the age group of 7 years to 17 years from 364 schools across 250 cities and towns.  Health survey from Bangalore recorded the alarming data of 53% of children with unhealthy BMI.

With strict lockdowns which has helped reduce the spread of virus, accepting the new normal has become routine. Although strict lockdowns have reduced the spread of Covid-19, it might be responsible for sedentary lifestyles. This nature of lifestyle has immensely impacted the children, with online classes and minimum or no physical activity, which has taken a big toll on their physical health and fitness as well as mental health.

Keeping in mind the importance of physical and mental health and following all COVID-19 protocols, Sportz Village Schools conducted an annual health survey to test the overall health levels of children.

At the national level, the health assessment, conducted online, looked at the state of health of children on the following fitness parameters - Body Mass Index (BMI), Aerobic Capacity, Anaerobic Capacity, Abdominal or Core Strength, Flexibility, Upper Body Strength and Lower Body Strength. At the national level, survey reveals that 1 in 2 children do not have a healthy BMI. Moreover, the percentage of children having healthy levels of Aerobic Capacity and Core Strength during this period dropped drastically by 33% and 10% respectively.
